Ecological Whale Watching with Freebird Sailing
To ensure that the whales and dolphins are respected in their natural habitat and ecological issues are observed to help protect the marine life, our fleet meet certain specifications and our crew operates to a code of conduct.
- The engines on our catamarans are fitted with silencers in order to minimise disturbance to marine life.
- Surface movement on the ocean is kept to a minimum owing to the shape of the catamarans and their fibreglass construction.
- As soon as a catamaran approaches a whale group (within 60 metres) the Captain turns off the engine to the gentle giants can freely approach the boat without placing themselves in any danger.
- Weather conditions permitting, the sail is raised and the engine shut down whenever possible, to enable us to be even more environmentally friendly.
- The paints used on our catamarans do not contain any toxic substances.
- All our crew and guides are marine specialists.
- All crockery and cutlery used on board are made from recyclable materials.
